What tools do you need to make jewellery?

Making your own jewellery is fun and there are many different possibilities and techniques. You will almost always need a few tools besides beads and ribbons.

What is the basic equipment for making jewellery?
You don't need a lot of tools to make jewellery yourself. The basic equipment includes pliers, bead board and scissors. You can use them to make necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings.

What are pliers for jewellery making?
There are different types of pliers for holding, cutting and bending. Your toolbox should include a pair of side cutters, a pair of flat nose pliers and a pair of rosary pliers.

Flat nose pliers = a pair of pliers for holding small objects and compressing crimping beads.

Side cut ters = pliers for cutting jewellery wire or shortening chain and eyelet pins.

Rosary pl iers = pliers for bending modelling wire or bending eyelets for chain pins.

What is a bead board?
Bead boards are an extremely practical tool for jewellery design. The bead board comes in different sizes. All bead boards have a groove in which the beads are arranged. This groove has a centimetre measurement. So you always know how long your necklace will be. You can place the beads back and forth in the groove until you like the design.

Why do you need scissors for jewellery making?
You can use scissors to cut or cut out different materials. You can use scissors to cut elastic silicone ribbon, cotton ribbon or leather ribbon. You also need scissors to cut out motif sheets.
