A woman named Sonora Smart Dodd wanted to thank and honour her father, who had raised six children on his own. She therefore suggested celebrating a Father's Day to honour all the fathers who lovingly raise and educate their children.

When is Father's Day celebrated in Germany?
Father's Day is a public holiday in honour of fathers, but actually also in honour of all men. In some regions, Father's Day is therefore also known as "Men's Day". The date of Father's Day is not standardised worldwide. In Germany, Father's Day is traditionally celebrated on Ascension Day. This is always the Thursday 40 days after Easter.
In Austria, for example, Father's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in June. In Switzerland, Father's Day is the first Sunday in June.
