Upcycling star pendant

Upcycling star pendant

Each lucky fever deliveryis packed in a sturdy brown shipping box. We thought the boxes are actually too good for the trash can and have come up with an upcycling idea: star pendants.

The tags consist of circles cut out of cardboard and wrapped with ribbon. Of course, any other sturdy cardboard or cardboard packaging is suitable for this purpose. The circles can be cut out in any size.

Smaller tags are particularly suitable as gift tags. Herewith you can decorate gifts not only at Christmas. With larger pendants you can decorate fir branches or other branches Christmas.

Basically, you can use for the star pendants any ribbon in the approx. 1- 2mm thickness. We used cotton ribbon and nylon ribbon for our gift tags and decorative tags. All ribbons can be ordered from our online store.

To make your work easier, we have also produced a star template. With this you can easily make the star pendants yourself.

First cut out a circle from the shipping box. For this you can use the star template or, for example, a glass or a cup. If you want to make a big star, you can also use a plate as a template. Place the circle on the template and begin to trace the markings.

Draw all eight marks on the cardboard circle. The star will later have eight points. Of course, you can draw more or less marks. You just need to draw an even number of points.
With the scissors you can now cut the markings about 0.5 cm deep. Do not cut the markings too deep!

The marks are still visible. Therefore, turn the cardboard circle over so that the markings are on the back side. Now start wrapping the cardboard circle into a star pendant. For the smaller circle on our template, you will need about 1.5 yards of ribbon. For the larger circle, about 2 yards of ribbon. Leave about 5 inches of ribbon on the back side of the cardboard circle so you can knot it later. Wrap the ribbon from one incision to the opposite incision.

Repeat this for all opposite incisions. Now the basic shape of an eight-pointed star is visible.
Now start to connect the individual rays with each other. Each ray gets two connections with another ray.
Continue winding the ribbon from ray to ray on the star pendant.

Finally, all eight rays of the upcycling star pendant are connected and a star is created. On the back of the pendant you can knot the two ribbon ends together.

So that the star pendant can also get a fastening loop, you still have to punch a hole in the cardboard. You can do this especially neatly with a hole punch. If you don't have a hole punch at hand, you can also carefully cut out the hole with scissors or a knitting needle.
Place the hole as centered as possible between two prongs of the upcycling star near the edge.
Finally, you just need to pull a piece of ribbon through the hole and knot it.
