Our company attaches great importance to selling good quality beads and jewelry accessories at a good price. We carefully select the producers of the beads and accessories and work closely with them. That is why we sell mostly items that are produced in Germany or in the rest of Europe in long-established companies. Only in this way we can be sure that these articles meet the current European regulations on ingredients and production techniques.

In Germany, only jewelry that is nickel-free or contains nickel below the legal limit may be sold.

In this context, we would like to point out once again that stainless steel contains nickel. However, the element nickel is so strongly bound in stainless steel that it is not released. This is referred to as nickel permissibility.

Laser engravings

Here we answer your questions about laser engraving

Laser engraving is a surface processing method. A high-energy laser beam is used to permanently change or mark a surface.

In laser engraving, the material is heated very strongly by the impinging laser beam. As a result, the surface color is changed to create contrasts, or the material vaporizes or burns. Laser engraving of metals creates rough structures that appear black and smooth structures that appear white. A laser engraving is permanent and very abrasion resistant.

Black engraving: When laser engraving metals such as tombac or stainless steel, the interaction of the melted base material with the oxygen in the air causes oxides to form, which settle in color. The resulting surface is rather rough and thus absorbs a lot of light. The engraving appears black. On stainless steel, the engraving may also appear dark gray. On items with a high brass content, the engraving may appear black to dark brown.

White engraving: With white engraving, the surface is only slightly melted. The result is a smooth, highly reflective surface - on stainless steel, the engraving looks white.

The biggest advantage of laser engraving is that it is particularly durable and long-lasting. Motifs can be permanently applied to metal items. The motifs are abrasion-resistant. Both very filigree and large-scale motifs can be engraved.

All laser engraving is done in house. We use both zamak and stainless steel as the base material for our engravings. We offer the metal items made of zamak in different finishes like silver plated, gold plated or bronze.

Many hands and heads work on our engraved articles.
First of all, our creative team. Here, ideas for new products and motifs are developed. Interests, hobbies and preferences of our whole team flow into it. But we also often get suggestions from customers. Therefore, we would like to thank all of you! Together with you our offer becomes more and more exciting!

Once the ideas are collected, the first drafts are made. If we are planning a completely new product, such as a new end cap or a new pendant shape, we work together with a manufacturer of metal articles. There a mold is made according to our ideas and samples of the new article are produced. If everything is as we have imagined, the next step is the motifs. Each new form and application presents us with new challenges. Which motives or writings fit to the blank? How big or small can the engraving be? Our graphics team designs the motifs and prepares everything for our laser team. The laser team then creates the files for the new items on the laser machine. The motifs have to be placed for each item so that they are engraved in the right place. This is somewhat time-consuming. That's why we unfortunately can't offer individual engravings.

Then it gets exciting and our idea becomes visible on metal for the first time. This is what we all look forward to the most! Sometimes we have to correct a little thing here and there and then the article can go into production!

Now we can also process the new articles into jewelry and accessories for the first time and produce the photos of the finished articles. Then comes only a small step and the new engraved products go online! So little by little a large assortment of different engraved articles is created.

You can choose from over 1000 different engraved items. Our orderers are two real classics: canvas keychains with engraved end caps or intermediates and canvas bracelets with engraved magnetic closures.

Also very popular are stainless steel chain pendants with engraving. The "Happy" series consists of square pendants with a fine playful script. You'll find the right pendant for every mood.

Engraved items are first of all jewelry accessories made of metal. So the same things apply to care and storage as usual. Stainless steel is particularly robust and does not tarnish. Even if stainless steel has been engraved, this property remains. Nevertheless, clean and dry your jewelry after wearing and store them in a dry place! Silver-plated articles made of zamak can tarnish! Clean these items regularly with a silver polishing cloth. Then you will enjoy them for a long time. Gold-plated articles made of zamak are 24 carat gold-plated, but you still have to treat them carefully. The gold plating can wear off with heavy use.

We hand polish all engraved items once again before they are shipped. If your freshly delivered engraved piece ever shows slight residue on the engraving, we weren't thorough enough. But that's not so bad! With a dry cloth or sponge you can easily remove the last residues.

Unfortunately, we do not make individual engravings. But if you have an idea or a motif request, please contact us. You can reach us via the contact form or directly by mail to kundenservice@gluecksfieber.de. Our design team is looking forward to your suggestions and will see if they can realize this motif for the Glücksfiebershop.

All our engraved articles are engraved directly in our engraving workshop in Lübeck. That's why we can react quickly to your wishes.

If you need a larger quantity of an item than is currently in stock, send us an email at kundenservice@gluecksfieber.de or use the contact form. Please let us know the item number and quantity. Our engraving team will get to work for you immediately and we will notify you when you can order the item in the shop.

Stainless steel for jewelry

Stainless steel is versatile and very resilient. So it is an ideal material for jewelry! Here you will find some useful information about stainless steel

Why use stainless steel for jewelry?
Stainless steel is versatile and very resilient. So it sounds like an ideal material for jewelry! Here are a few advantages and properties of stainless steel:

Scratch resistance
Jewelry and jewelry accessories made of stainless steel is very hard and therefore more scratch-resistant than, for example, metal parts made of zamak or brass.

Protection against tarnishing
The main advantage of stainless steel is its corrosion resistance. This means that it does not oxidize, like jewelry parts galvanized with gold or silver. Stainless steel is therefore very easy to care for.

Protection from external influences
Stainless steel has another positive property: through contact with oxygen in air or water, a thin layer of chromium oxide is formed on the surface of the steel. This layer protects the steel underneath from further external influences. If this layer is damaged, it immediately forms again.

Different finish
Stainless steel typically has a gray-silver color. However, it can also be plated in a variety of colors: Black, light silver, rose gold or yellow gold. This coating is called plating. There are different techniques for this: Rolling on a fine foil of metal, dipping or the very durable ion plating. Plating changes the color of the surface and, in addition to the color change, increases wear resistance.

You come into contact with stainless steel all the time in your everyday life: cutlery, pots, cooking utensils etc. But stainless steel is also a popular material for jewelry and jewelry accessories. Stainless steel is a collective term for alloyed steels with a special degree of purity. This means that various elements such as chromium, nickel, molybdenum and vanadium are added to the starting material steel. This gives stainless steel its typical properties:

Chromium ensures the improvement of the corrosion ability of stainless steel, i.e. the steel becomes stainless. Stainless steel can only be called "rust-free" when the chromium content is at least 13 percent.

Molybdenum also enhances the improvement of corrosion ability.

Nickel provides resistance to acids of stainless steel.

Vanadium increases the workability of stainless steel.

Stainless steel is classified in different material numbers. We use the AISI numbers in our store. AISI stands for American Iron and Steel Institute.

There are several designations for this stainless steel:

AISI nomenclature: 304European
EN standard: 1.4301Stainless
steel 18/8 = 18% chromium, 8% nickel and 74% steel
It is a chromium-nickel steel with good corrosion resistance

.

Stainless steel 304 is easy to work and weld. It has good corrosion resistance, heat resistance and strength. It is good for stamping and bending. It can also be polished well.
Stainless steel 304L is the low carbon version of stainless steel 304 and has even better corrosion resistance and heat resistance.

There are several designations for this stainless steel:

AISI nomenclature: 316European
EN standard: 1.4401It
is

a chromium-nickel-molybdenum steel with good resistance to non-oxidizing acids and chlorine-containing media.

Due to the chemical composition, 316 material and 316 L material has good corrosion resistance

.

The stainless steel can also be polished well.
Stainless steel 316 stainless steel gets good corrosion resistance due to the addition of molybdenum. Stainless steel 316L is the low carbon version of stainless steel 316 with even better corrosion resistance.

There are various designations for this stainless steel:

AISI Nomenclature: 201European
EN Standard: 1.4372

This is a chromium-nickel steel. Depending on the composition with a proportion of 16% - 18% chromium and a proportion of 3.5% - 5.5% nickel. In addition, a proportion of 5.5% - 7.5% manganese is added for strengthening. Stainless steel 201 can be rolled thinner due to the lack of nickel content, but has much lower corrosion resistance and only limited acid resistance.

Stainless steel 304 has a light silver-gray color and offers a better shine.
Stainless steel 201 contains more manganese and therefore has a darker
and grayer surface.

Stainless steel is an alloy that contains nickel, especially in high-grade and corrosion-resistant grades. Nickel provides acid resistance in stainless steel in particular. But nickel is firmly bound in these chromium-nickel-molybdenum steels and is not released when worn.

Stainless steel is protected by a layer of chromium oxide. If this layer is destroyed by friction, cosmetics or cleaning agents, rust can develop. This rust can be removed.
However, stainless steel has self-healing properties and through contact with oxygen the chromium oxide layer can form anew.

Stainless steel can be used for a variety of jewelry accessories.
The steel can be cast, milled, drawn or rolled.
Stainless steel is particularly popular for magnetic clasps, link chains and earrings
.
But pendants are also made of stainless steel.

Stainless steel is easy to care for,
you can clean it with water, mild soap and a lint-free cloth. Finally, you can also polish the surface with absorbent cotton for an even more beautiful shine.
Stainless steel jewelry can also be cleaned in an ultrasonic device
.

The question cannot be answered across the board.
There is ferritic stainless steel with little or no nickel content. It belongs to the AISI 400 series. This stainless steel is magnetic. However, it is not usually used for jewelry.
Austenitic steel is used for jewelry. It is steel with more than 8% nickel content and therefore has good corrosion stability. This steel is not magnetic.
