Make leather cabochons yourself
In this DIY tutorial we will show you how to make leather cabochons very easily.
How about a pendant or ring with a cabochon made of leather? All you need for this material is a leather scrap, pendant or ring setting and Hasulith jewelry glue. As a tool you need a cutting knife for circles and a cutting pad.
In the first step you set the diameter of the later cabochon in the circle cutter. Here we used a pendant for cabochons with a diameter of 30 mm. So we have set 3 cm on the scale of the cutter.
Now place a scrap of leather on the cutting mat. Set the cutter so that there is enough leather left to cut out a whole circle.
Cut out a circle with the cutter. To do this, turn the cutter once in a circle. The tip in the middle of the cutter is your fixed point and does not move.
Now you can remove the leather cabochon from the leather scrap. Not all leather can be cut equally well. If the edges of the cabochon have become a bit frayed, you can smooth the edges a bit with scissors.
The leather cabochon is now finished. Depending on the type of leather, you can still see a little of the puncture mark in the middle. But this mark disappears with time.
Now you can glue the cabochon into the setting. Hasulith jewelry glue is very suitable for this. Put a few drops in the middle of the pendant and spread the glue.
Now place the cabochon in the setting of the pendant. Press the cabochon firmly into place.
Allow the glued pendant to dry thoroughly for at least 12 hours before finishing the pendant into a necklace.
You can easily make the leather cabochons in many different sizes. Each type of leather and color looks different in your jewelry. Great additional effects you can achieve if you paint the cabochons with leather paint.
