Make chain with engraved donut and paracord

Step by step instructions for a necklace with ribbon, pendant and anchor stitch knot

In this tutorial we will show you how to easily attach a ribbon to an engraved donut. The knot you need is the anchor stitch. You can always change the ribbon. This way you can always wear your favourite pendant with a ribbon that matches your outfit.

Material and tools

For this necklace you need the following material:
1. engraved donut pendant
2. paracord or sail rope with 2 mm diameter
3. two end caps suitable for 2 mm sail rope
4. superglue

You will also need these tools:
1. scissors
2. lighter

Step 1
If you did not order the ribbon in the right length, first cut the ribbon with scissors. We used a one metre length of ribbon for this necklace. If you prefer, you can also use a longer ribbon.

Sail rope or paracord easily frays when cut. You can melt the ends of the ribbon with a lighter. Then glue the end caps to the ends of the ribbon. We used super glue for this.

Step 2
Allow the end caps and ribbon to dry briefly. The end caps are a professional finish for the ribbon. Choose silver or gold plated end caps to match the pendant.
You can also make the necklace without end caps.

Step 3
Now attach the donut to the ribbon. The knot that is best for this is the anchor stitch. The knot is very easy to tie! Make a loop in the middle of the ribbon. This loop is pulled through the inner opening of the donut. The loop lies under the donut.

Step 4
Now fold over the two long loose ends of the ribbon and pull them under the loop. Pull the ribbon completely through the loop.

Step 5
Now the donut is securely fastened to the ribbon. However, the knot can be easily undone at any time and the ribbon can be replaced.

Step 6
Before you can wear the necklace on your neck, you need to close the ribbon.
If you always want to wear the necklace in the same length, you can simply close the ribbon with a knot.
But if you want to vary the length, you can also close the chain with a slip knot. You can find instructions for a slip knot in the basic instructions.
