Make your own necklace

Also for the self-made necklaces with our sail rope 2mm our motto is: The sea always goes! The maritime sail rope can also be used to make your own necklace. The sail rope is used as a base. You can then hang a pendant of your choice on the cord. We recommend that you choose a pendant that is also a setting for cabochons. This way you can create a very nautical necklace. All you need is a glass cabochon, a matching maritime motif sheet and our matching glue. Your cabochon jewellery with sail rope is already within reach.

If you've never made cabochon jewellery before, we have a few tips for you. How to glue glass cabochons:

Step 1: Put a drop of Glossy Accents glue on the flat side of the clean and lint-free cabochon and spread it slightly on the cabochon with the tip of the glue bottle.

Step 2: Place the cabochon with the glue on the motif sheets. (We recommend using our offset motif sheets).

Step 3: Press the cabochon firmly onto the design.

Step 4: Allow the motif to dry completely.

Step 5: Cut out the motif around the glass cabochon.

Step 6: It is best to use our dispersion glue and put some of it into the setting and spread the glue.

Step 7: Place the glass cabochon in the setting and press it in place.

Step 8: Allow the glued setting to dry thoroughly for 24 hours.

Make your own key ring

You can always use key rings. After all, everyone has a lot of keys in use. So that they don't just lie around loose, it makes sense to attach them to a key ring. To make sure your key ring looks exactly the way you want it to, we recommend that you make your own key rings.

We would like to introduce you to a DIY idea for homemade key rings made of sail rope here: Our key rings with rigging knots.

What accessories do I need to make my own key rings?

For these special key rings you need a 2mm sail rope and a 10mm sail rope. The colour of the sail rope is up to you. You also need a key ring and a metal bead for 10mm sail rope. You can find the metal beads under accessories for 10mm sail rope.

How do I make a keyring out of sail rope?

You have all the materials you need? Then you can start making it yourself. First, take the 10mm diameter sail rope and cut a 32cm long piece from it. Heat this piece at the ends of the cord with a lighter. Before you press the two heated cord ends together, you should pull the key ring onto the sail rope.

Now you can take a short break and let the sail rope cool down and harden. After the break you can start winding the knot:

Step 1: Take the sail rope with a diameter of 2mm and lay it in the shape of a loop next to the other sail rope.

Step 2: Now you can start wrapping the longer end of the sail rope around the other sail rope. The laid loop is also wound tightly.

Step 3: Now wrap the sail rope around the sail rope until only a small piece of the loop remains.

Step 4: Pull the remaining sail rope through the small loop and knot it. You can heat the knot with a lighter. This will melt the sail rope and the knot is additionally secured. You can cut off the excess sail rope with scissors.

Take a look around our online shop and be inspired by our DIY jewellery instructions. We hope you have fun making your own jewellery and look forward to receiving your order.
